As more people have become users of social media, the populations of these sites have become more heterogeneous. This means that people who are using sites like Facebook can have vastly different motivations, norms and behaviors within these systems. This talk will highlight some of these differences, and overall trends in social media use.
Cliff Lampe is an assistant professor in the School of Information at the University of Michigan. Before that, he was on the faculty of the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University. His research is in how people use social media and social computing sites, particularly for collaborative purposes. In pursuit of that research, he has studied Facebook, Wikipedia and other large-scale sites.
