The Evolution of Public Relations


Public Relations has been in integral part of marketing and sales for a long time.  Only recently has the industry changed with the rapid proliferation of the Internet and emphasis on developing life-long consumer relationships. 

Larry Eiler, CEO of Eiler Communications will discuss the public relations industry before the Internet and emphasize the vast changes within the industry.  He will discuss the new mediums for third-party endorsements, including social media for both consumer-to-consumer and business-to-business public relations.  Eiler will also discuss inbound and content marketing and its role in niche markets.  The ever-important aspect of result measurement will also be addressed.  Eiler will have a senior associate, Andy Chapelle with him to discuss the up and coming local markets and his take on public relations as a seasoned journalist.

Larry Eiler is the co-founder, chairman and chief executive of Eiler Communications, a public relations and marketing firm in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  The firm’s business expertise is in positioning, writing, media relations, corporate communications and periodic events.  Eiler has lectured and authored numerous articles on public relations and technology marketing.  He was an executive of Carl Byoir, one of the world’s largest PR counseling firms and held communications management positions at Honeywell, Comshare and Machine Vision International.  Eiler is accredited by the Public Relations Society of America and has taught a high-tech marketing seminar at the University of Michigan Business School and also has taught marketing at Eastern Michigan’s College of Business.

Andy Chapelle is a senior associate at Eiler Communications.  He is the former managing editor at Crain’s Detroit Business where he supervised the reporting staff from May 2007 to January 2011.  Chapelle has served as editor of the Ann Arbor Business Review, was the founding editor of the Oakland Business Review and spent 21 years as an editor at The Ann Arbor News.  He also worked six years as a public relations representative at Eastern Michigan University.
